Santiago the fruitful

The island state of Cape Verde consists of an archipelago of 15 islands and some small islets. Nine of the islands are inhabited, of which Santiago is not only the largest geographically, but also the one with the largest population, about a fifth of the inhabitants live on Santiago.

Cape Verde is divided into two groups of islands, the «Ilhas de Barlavento» (Windward Islands) in the north and the «Ilhas de Sotavento» (Windward Islands) in the south. The island of Santiago belongs to the latter group.

Its capital Praia is located in the south of the island, where the international airport is located. From Zurich you can reach Praia with a stop-over in Lisbon in 7 flying hours.

Santiago offers a varied natural landscape from sandy beaches to rugged mountains, the highest elevation is the Pico da Antónia with 1'394 m above sea level.

In the northwest of the island is Tarrafal, a popular destination for the inhabitants of the capital Praia, especially because of its palm beach. Our «Casa Morabeza» is only 7 minutes by car from Tarrafal. Another highlight is the silver beach of Ribeira da Prata which is not far from our property.

Already on the journey from Praia in the south to Tarrafal in the north you cross the whole island in 1.5 hours and get a wonderful overview of its natural beauty.
